A Nightworld Meeting in LondonAn English Nightworld Meeting
The Nightworld Meeting: London, June 19th.
Unity, and welcome to the webpage for the English Meetings of Nightworld: Circle Daybreak. So far there's only been one meeting on June 19th, but it was a great success and hopefully, we'll have lots more meetings if I can persuade you to come and join me in London for some......fun. Don't worry though, We're all perfectly harmless, (apart from Kieran and that's another story) and I for one thought that the last meeting was great, and that everyone NEEDS to come to the next one which'll be in July, more info in your email Inbox for all of you who live in England! Anyway, enough propaganda for the next meeting, you all want to hear about the last one don't you? Lucy puts her hands to her ears to hear the exceedingly faint sound of cheering from a long way away, guess that was Katy then, living in Cumbria and all. But with little further ado
allow me to be your tourguide to the world of London as seen by the members of Circle Daybreak. I get to write first, but if you don't want to listen to me anymore, some of the other attendees wrote reports which you can read further down the page, and of course there are the photos', dispersed at artistic intervals, and some of them are verrrry good, great blackmail quality too!
Okay, this might as well go in chronological order as I can't think of any better way to do it.
So, on Saturday the 19th of June, (a day ever enshrined in history) I travelled up to London very early( i.e., before 8'o'clock in the morning to get to King's Cross to meet Krystina, Mairi and Kieran who had gotten up at 3 in the morning to get to London from Sheffield, now that's either craziness or dedication! But it was definitely worth it to meet them, it was an.......experience! I had said, "oh, meet at platform one" but guess what, you got it, there was NO platform one, so I just wandered around until I met three people dressed in black, they weren't exactly hard to spot! Especially with Kieran's somewhat interesting T-shirt..... I was supposed to be meeting Lethna before the other three, but instead of protecting me from the dangers of King's Cross, she had decided instead to wander around in the bowls of the Earth, i.e under the station. After getting her mobile phone number, we managed to persuade her to join us on the surface, Que., lots of hugs and a few photos', courtesy of Kieran.
Take a look below, the first of many photos' to come, so watch out!
A photo to charm your heart n'est ce pas? But in reality, from left to right, Lethna, Mairi, Me and Krystina. And if I hadn't told you before now, I'm Lucy, if you ever get to meet me, I'm the mad, hyper one, as anyone who was in London will tell you
On with the show then! Having gathered everyone together, we then wandered off, courtesy of the London Underground to Oxford Street, where I immediately lost Lethna and Mairi in their paradise, a huge sci-fi section containing the new Anne McCaffrey book. After an appropriate interval, we went to Soho, just to take a look of course! Although we nearly lost Kieran to an Anne Summers shop.........We then moved on to Charing Cross Road, where there is the MOST Wonderful shop in the Whole Wide World, and kudos to Lethna to finding it for us! It is of course, that great bastion of sci fi, horror and crime books, Murder One, where it was impossible to leave, and if it wasn't for the time and the fact we had another 7 or so people to meet, I don't think you would ever have seen me again, and yes, I know that wouldn't have been a great loss to some of you, but still.....
And then we went on to Victoria, to meet everyone else! And it was an experience! Having found platform one, (yes, there was one, but it was a long way down and we nearly didn't get there) and sat down to wait with plaent of sweets and an interesting sign. And no, I'm not telling you what it was about, it involved blood and humour and scared away a few people. Sarah models it here for us, and yes, you can't read the writing, that was done on purpose, Cassie might not approve! I just love this photo though don't you Sarah? Tee Hee!
So the first to arrive was Miss Sara Maysey in a delightful black dress with the appropriate accessories, so she fitted in just nicely! See her on the right of this photo!
And then came the others in their droves! Well, there weren't that many, but it sure seemed like it at the time. Along came Sarah, our delightful sign modeller who never, in the all the time I saw her stopped smiling. And if you ever want to stop being paranoid, just have Sarah around you, she'll put a smile on your face and a spring in your foot! Or have I just been watching too many cheesy musicals? We gave her the appropriate welcome, a bunch of extremely nosy questions, and settled down to wait for the others. And along cam the next victim, appropriately chaperoned by her mother and sister, but we really aren't that scary! But Katy seemed happy enough to stay with us for eternity, although horror of horrors, she wasn't wearing black! A mortal sin! But we accepted her anyway and
settled down to wait for our last pomme de sang, (go read Laurell K Hamilton!) And we weren't disappointed. The last but by no means to arrive, Miss Vicki Wright, fresh from her University studies and another big smiler, some of the time! She was our oldest, and the group was complete. So then, guess what time it was? That's right, photo time again! Courtesy of Kieran, who we nearly lost to a passing train as he struggled to get us all in the frame! So check out the first of many group photos!
Again, from left to right, Katy, Vicki, Sarah, Mairi, Krystina, Me, Lethna and Sara! The whole group together at last! Well, apart from Kieran the photographer, who can be seen here in this photo conducting his own private orchestra!
After all the photos and introductions, we said goodbye to Victoria and got on a tube to Covent Garden, a delightful place! Having got hungry and seeing no willing blood donors around, we headed of to Pizza Hut and promptly upset all their seating arrangements by asking for a table for nine! But being such nice people, they complied and we were soon seated with lovely pepperoni, seafood and hawaian pizzas which soon went! After satiating our appetites, we went and wandered round Covent garden for a little while, finding some very interesting shops and dipping our own candles. With depleted resources, we moved on to High Street Kensington and it's ever so delightful market of the same name.
It was a haven for us, filled with the most fascinating gothic and well......other items, including some very interesting chain mail bikini's, no sun protection there! But the best thing by miles, was a shop, most appropriately for us named...........wait for it, The Black Rose. Of course, we had to go in! Oh wow, and was it great in there! Let's just say, if you like clothing that is velvet, plastic or leather, gothick and looking like it comes from the 17th century, then you're going to love it. Needless to say I was totally at home! As was Sarah. Take a look!
After exhausting the market's capabilities and saying goodbye to Sara and her boyfriend, sob!, parting is such sweet sorrow! We had to think about where to go next. Some bright spark, I can't remember who, anyone want to own up? Had the bright idea of going to Harrods. So off we trooped. And just to prove we were really there, take a look at this photograph!
If you look closely enough, the sign does say Harrods! But what happened next? Well, that's the best part of the story! We were thrown out three times! They really are prejudiced about clothing! Just because we didn't llok particularly normal..........But someone else had the bright idea of going in in pairs and triplets, and guess what, it worked! And we had a lovely time in Harrods! Especially with the lollipops. But by then time was dragging on and we had to get everyone on their respective trains back home, so we wandered off to Euston to have a final photo session and say goodbey to everyone, check out the photo below!
Don't we all look sweet! After tearful farewells and lots of hugs, we sent Katy off with her mother, left Krystina, Kieran, Mairi and Sarah to take the Underground, and well, Lethna, Vicki and I went back to Leicester Square to see Ryan Phillipe in Cruel Intentions, drool! The perfect end to a perfect day.!
Well, that's finally the end of MY commentary! But things don't end here! Below you'll find reports from people who were there and I've remembered to ask along with their single photo, more coming soon!
Here's Vicki, otherwise known as Falcon Caelum and her report.
Arriving at Victoria the thought of how easy it would be to spot the others did occur to me. There really was no need as 8 people, most in black sitting on a platform are pretty easy to locate. After a brief intro we all headed off to Covent Garden where we grabbed some food. This gave us all a chance to chat and get to know each other a bit. After wandering round Covent Garden for a while we all moved to Kensington market. There were some great shops down there, especially The Black Rose. Kind of an apt name for a shop with a load of LJS fans.
From here we thought we’d go for a change of scene…Harrods. While we guessed that we may not be allowed in we still had to give it a go. The first attempt lasted 15 seconds; the second only 3 seconds…a new record maybe. While hanging around outside discussing the ‘no groups on a Saturday’ policy one of those open topped tour buses came and stopped outside. Some people were already looking, the rest looked when Keiran announced to them how we’d been kicked out after 3 seconds for being in a group. Most seemed to find it amusing and some even took pictures! I’m sure that when they get home and show their friends the pictures, they’ll be able to tell them a rather amusing story. On the third attempt we all got in.
After Harrods it was time to head back to drop some people off at stations. Everyone except Lucy, Lethna and myself had trains to catch so we had a final photo session before people headed off. Us last three headed of to Leicester Square and caught Cruel Intentions before heading off home.
It was really good to find out who some of the people off list are. It was a great day and kudos to Lucy for organising it all! I’ll be back in July for sure and hope to see everyone from the June meet and loads more there. And next comes Sarah Pollock, otherwise known as Ivory Caelum,
Sorry it's the same picture again but the other one didn't turn out very well! Well what can I say, what didn't we attempt to do or see
and my poor aching feet were witness to this, but what the heck we had loads of fun and a great time. when I first caught sight of them while I casually strolled down the platform I did wonder what I had let myself but not for long
they weren't hard to spot- a group dressed nearly all in black sitting in a circle on the floor of a busy London train station, they were either my group or an interesting group of buskers- take your pick (only joking!)
so after the vague and silly intros that we each gave between jaws glued shut with sweets and lots of posing for photos- this seemed to happen quite a bit so maybe we are all heading towards the wrong careers
we headed off to Leicester Square to obtain some certain books that so I was told were necessary/vital even to add to my book collection
then after hauling the bookworms out of the shop We managed to get back on track to Covent Garden which was part of our original plan for the day
Here we wandered around and around before eating lunch in Pizza Hut until we were all stuffed to the gills and about to burst
there is too much to see and do in Covent Garden so I won't go into details apart from to say that there is a great hippy shop next to which there is also a cool candle shop
what do I say- go there yourself and explore the wonders (I am beginning to sound like a travel guide to the joys of LONDON)
Afterwards we visited Kensington High Street and its gothic market yay!!!
now here is where the fun really got started, cheap merchandise, freaky funky looking locals- everyone remembers the woman with the long pink hair
this place was the ultimate funhouse ,one shop-'THE BLACK ROSE' seemed to be where the Addams family went shopping and that was fine with usit even has a mail order site on the internet
this shop was to many of us our idea of heaven, long silk and velvet dresses with bat wing sleeves or gothic pointsin our fav colours- black (of course) red and my personal favourite as many found out due to my squeals of delight PURPLE!!!
(and yes at 18 I do still squeal)another interesting point in the day was our attempt to go to Harrods, a necessary place on a London tour in fact we became part of the tour when exciting tourists starting snapping away at us with their ginormous cameras
after our third attempt to enter the building we were eventually let in ( they told us that on saturdays they didn't accept groups- stupid rule but we outsmarted them!)
I must say though that this shop is generally quite boring and not what it is cracked up to be apart from the toy department (which I have been to other occasions!)
After an exhausting many of us had to get home for some reason or other while those that didn't have to go quite so soon went off cruising the city in search of a cinema
thats all folks.Happy ready.
Well, that's it for now, more will be added to this site when I have the time and other people have sent in their reports!
Toodles for now! Lucy
